Our History

In 1992 a group of parents met to discuss the options available for permanent full time care for their family members with an intellectual disability. Their focus was holistic well being in an environment that fostered community participation and naturally occurring social relationships.

A charitable trust was established in 1994 and in October 1996 we opened our first residential home and day programme in Whenuapai. A year later our second home opened in Glendene. Both were rental properties.

The Whenuapai service users relocated to Royal Heights in 2003 when we purchased our first house.  The Glendene service users relocated locally in 2006 when we purchased our second house, situated in Great North Road. In July 2012, we opened our third residential home which is situated in Massey, Auckland.

Our Mission

Agape Homes Trust is committed to providing support for the intellectually disabled with Agape love, being divine, unconditional consistent love in the same way as the Lord Jesus Christ has loved us.

Agape Homes Trust will be a place where each person will be loved and respected for themselves and will provide a safe environment where they can freely grow spiritually, emotionally, socially and intellectually regardless of their disability. The Agape Homes Trust will provide knowledgeable and skilled staffing that is responsive to an individual’s changing needs and who will encourage each person to extend on their abilities. No one person has all the gifts to make a community truly alive; therefore we depend on each other to enjoy a full life.
